Original Drive-in Movie Theater ads from the 1930's
All the newspaper
ads on this page are from the original papers of the day they were printed.
Again, no microfilm copies are used anywhere on this site. I wanted
to highlight a page that showed original drive-in ads from the 1930's.
The first drive-in theater opened in Camden, NJ on June 6, 1933. From
that point until World War II there were only about 95 drive-ins in existence.
Considering that eventually there were almost 5,000 drive-ins built in the
U.S. by the late 1950's, the early drive-in theaters of the 1930's are fairly
rare. Even rarer yet are original drive-in newspaper ads from those
theaters of the 1930's. So sit back and enjoy a rare glimpse into how
drive-in theaters were advertised and what was shown on the silver screen
way back then. .
